On September 14, 1993, Just weeks after Jordie Chandler had signed a sworn declaration detailing Michael’s alleged abuse, his parents, June Chandler Schwartz and Evan Chandler, filed a civil suit against him for the sexual molestation of their son.
June and Evan were divorced. June had re-married but was at the time separated from her second husband, David Schwartz. From the beginning, June had been very supportive of her son’s friendship with Michael, allowing herself, Jordie and daughter Lily, to become Michael’s new ‘family’. They stayed with him at Neverland, accompanied him on trips around the world and to big award ceremonies, and he frequently slept over at their place.
When Evan obtained Jordie’s confession of sexual impropriety with Michael (albeit under the influence of hypnotic drug Sodium Amytal), June, who had originally opposed Evan’s suspicions, decided to align with him against Michael.
Perhaps she feared reprisals from Evan if she continued to oppose him, thinking it possible that her ex-husband would seek sole custody of Jordie if Michael was found guilty. Perhaps she decided to support Evan because she felt shut out from Michael’s life once he was told about the allegations; not to spite him, but because without being able to talk to Michael about the situation, she no longer felt certain of her original conviction that he was blameless. Whatever the case, June chose to support Evan Chandler.
June’s lawyer, Michael Freeman, quit, saying he was ‘uncomfortable’ with her decision to support Evan because he had a bad feeling about Evan, whom he later described as ‘not a genuine person’.
Evan’s lawyer, Barry Rothman, also resigned and was replaced by civil attorney Larry Feldman, who would now represent June, Evan, and Jordie.

Hi Adrian…That is right, the “Performance Tax” as the radio stations like to call it……The USA is now a Corp/USA….and I guess we will just have to live with it……but this performance tax, looks like it has the same forces behind it that we find behind the MJ power and money grab….I think the names that worked to “lobby’ this tax would be familar….to the MJ history researchers…

Funny how all the other mega stars never had parents extorting them for money. Oh, that is right, MJ slept with prepubescent boys for hundreds of nights. The facts of this case speak for themselves. MJ groomed Jordie and his mother with gifts, shopping trips, travel etc, all for the purpose of sleeping with Jordie. He followed Jordan to New York when the boy was attending a family wedding. Guess what MJ paid for June and Jordie’s hotel and when MJ arrived who do you think he slept with?
Thank you for posting the entire civil suit against Michael by Evan and June Chandler. It is quite an eye opener. No innocent man would settle this for over 22 million unless he was guilty of inappropriate behavior.

We are in the middle of a big scandal around our catholic church and child abuse here in Germany. These guys dont seem to understand the crimes they are doing as well. Its the old greek style for them.

Not sure why the civil suit is relevant to anything. Michael was sued by lots of people. It appears to be yet another attempt by Evan Chandler to extort money from Michael, and his flaky ex-wife went along with the program. Geraldine Hughes discussed the Chandlers’ suit in her book, Redemption: The Truth Behind the Michael Jackson Child Molestation Allegations. But Ms. Hughes indicated that June Chandler Schwartz was somewhat unstable because it was often difficult to understand which position she was taking on a given issue about Michael. Sometimes she appeared to defend Michael, other times her position was in the opposite direction. So given her unstable actions, the civil suit seems like a non sequitur at best.
The civil suit is relevant because it shows just what the accusations were, who was involved, and what Michael’s accusers were after. We want to present the complete story, all angles.
We think that the Chandlers probably did not act off their own backs. If the molestation allegations of ’93 really did have some foundations, then why did his accusers not go straight to court and ensure Michael was completely destroyed by going to jail? Because he didn’t do anything. Of course, the ones enabling his accusers knew they wouldn’t win the trial so they filed a civil suit giving Michael the option to pay them money instead of going to trial.
They capitalised on Michael’s fragility and betted on him choosing to pay them out rather than going to court and fighting the allegations. Their bet paid off – the accusations took a terrible toll on Michael’s physical and emotional well-being and he ended up electing to pay them out so the whole matter would go away and he could concentrate on re-building his career and getting on with his life (we have read other accounts that say Michael’s insurance company elected to pay out the Chandlers and gave him no choice in the matter. But if this was the case, then why did his insurance company not also do this in 2005?).
Michael’s accusers used the publicity of the civil suit to destroy him to the fullest extent they could, to put dirt on him because mud sticks and an accusation of child molestation is as sticky as it gets. Even if nothing is ever proved, it’s the stigma the accused is left with that matters.
And in the end, that’s all they wanted – to cause irreparable damage to his reputation thereby destroying his status as ‘King of Pop’.

Agreed. In addition, even after Michael settled with the Chandlers, there was nothing to prevent prosecutors from going after him for allegedly molesting the “Jordie.” Michael merely settled a civil action, but it is illegal and improper for a suspect in a criminal case to buy off the prosecutor. The fact that the criminal prosecution stopped dead in its tracks after Michael settled with the Chandlers is highly suspicious.
