Living With Michael Jackson

In 2002, Michael agreed to do an interview with Martin Bashir, the same reporter who made the famous Diana interview. Michael allowed cameras into Neverland and allowed Bashir to follow him around for eight months straight, nothing was off limits. Living with Michael Jackson was supposed to be a candid look into Michael’s life, and Michael believed the documentary would help sway public opinion in his favour, as the Diana documentary had done for the late princess.

However, when it aired in the US in 2003, it had the completely opposite effect. In the interview, Michael spoke about sharing his bed with children and his belief that there was nothing wrong with doing this. In the editing room, Bashir made sure that this was honed in on and consequently, did Michael no favours.

One of Michael’s child friends, Gavin Arvizo, also appeared in the documentary. It was this child who would be the catalyst for Michael’s second child molestation investigation which commenced on the morning of November 18, 2003 with more than 60 police officers and investigators descending on Neverland with a search warrant.

The case went to court and on June 13, 2005, the jury found Michael not guilty of child molestation.

Here’s the documentary that started the second child abuse allegations, Living with Michael Jackson:
