Shortly after Bashir’s documentary Living with Michael Jackson aired, Michael’s side revealed that they had their cameras rolling at the same time as Bashir, shooting all the same footage he did. This was done in order to ensure Bashir did not present a distorted image. The rights of this footage were sold to Fox for $5 million and presented on television by Maury Povich in a documentary called The Michael Jackson Interview: The Footage You Were Never Meant to See.
Although the rebuttal did indeed reveal that Bashir presented a distorted image, it did not succeed in making people forget that Michael admitted to sharing his bed with a 12-year old boy. In the eyes of most, this was still unacceptable behavior.
